June, 28 2023 ( Updated April, 26 2024)

Experience the magic of the Italian Opera at the enchanting Festival della Valle d'Itria!

Known as the Festival della Valle d'Itria or the Valle d'Itria Festival, this 1975 annual music and theatre festival takes place in one of the most culturally captivating regions of Italy called Puglia. The festival is famous for its commitment to artistic excellence and efforts to preserve and promote Italian operatic heritage. Over the years, Valle d’Itria has contributed significantly to the cultural landscape of Puglia and has become an important event in the international opera calendar!

The Festival della Valle d'Itria is held during the summer months in the beautiful towns and municipalities of Valle d’Itria, utilising historic venues such as the Palazzo Ducale and Teatro Verdi in Martina Franca and the Palazzo Municipale in Locorotondo for performances.

The festival showcases operatic productions, including both well-known classics and rarely performed works. But it has also gained a reputation for staging lesser-known operas, often featuring hidden gems and showing the richness of the operatic tradition. In addition to opera, the Festival della Valle d'Itria also features concerts, recitals, and chamber music performances, with talented musicians from around the world!

If the events of the last year edition were dedicated to irony, opera buffa, and operetta, the 50th edition of the Festival will open with Vincenzo Bellini's Norma, in its original 1831 version.

To be admitted to the festival, you must have tickets, don’t forget to buy them!

About the area: Valle d'Itria is located in the southern part of Italy, specifically in the Apulia (Puglia), known for its stunning landscapes, charming towns, and unique architectural features. The region takes its name from the Itria Valley, a picturesque area characterised by rolling hills, vineyards, olive groves, and fields dotted with the famous trulli houses. Trulli are traditional limestone dwellings with conical roofs, which give the area a distinctive and enchanting appearance.

Valle d'Itria is also home to several beautiful towns, including Alberobello, Locorotondo, and Martina Franca, known for their well-preserved historic centers, narrow winding streets, and whitewashed buildings adorned with colourful flowers. Additionally, the region is renowned for its agricultural products, particularly olive oil and wine.

Valle d'Itria attracts visitors with its rich cultural heritage, gastronomy, and natural beauty. It offers opportunities for exploring historical sites, enjoying traditional cuisine, and immersing oneself in the relaxed and authentic atmosphere of southern Italy.
